Sam Roberts, like his publisher and editor, is simply obfuscating the point. He places Hymie Schorenstein in the catagory of illegal immigrants which he was not! He live a productive life and added to the good of America, even if he was a Democ-rat! I thought that Joan Schorenstein Barone was related to him but was not certain.
I thought about him today as the great firm of Lehman Brothers went under because Hymie Schorenstein is responsible for Herbert Lehman receiving the Democ-rat nomination for Governor of New York.
The Tammany crowd in Manhattan wanted to make Robert Wagner Governor and Herbert Lehman Senator in 1932. Lehman, FDR’s Lt. Guvernor, wanted to be made Governor and Hymie Schorenstein want to the hotel room window, pulled down the windowshade ans said, “If Lehman doesn’t get it, the shade on the clubhouse comes down.”
